The December Dilemma: A Month of Magic and Madness

Why my birthday month is also the month I dread!

Does it feel like November just blinked out of existence, and suddenly, here we are in December? It’s a month of magic, a time for joy, love, and reflection. But let’s be honest, it can also be a real rollercoaster.

For me, December is a bittersweet affair. On one hand, it’s my birthday month, a time for celebration and self-indulgence. But on the other, it’s a period of intense pressure and self-doubt. It's as if my inner critic takes a holiday season break from hibernation to judge and critique every aspect of my life.

I find myself caught in a strange loop: I'm both grateful for my accomplishments and critical of my shortcomings. It's as if I'm my own toughest critic, setting unrealistic expectations and ignoring my progress. I'm learning, though, that self-compassion is key. Over the years I have tried to work through this problem of mine. But I still can’t seem to balance it.

To navigate this emotional rollercoaster, I'm taking a few steps:

  • Decluttering: A clean space can lead to a clear mind. I'm decluttering my physical and digital spaces to create a fresh start.

  • Early Planning: Instead of rushing to create a vision board at the last minute, I'm taking my time to set realistic goals for the year ahead.

  • Mindful Breaks: I'm giving myself permission to rest and recharge without guilt.

  • Intentional Living: I'm focusing on activities that bring me joy and help me feel fulfilled.

  • Embracing Uncertainty: Instead of worrying about the future, I'm focusing on living in the present moment.

I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can encourage others to be kind to themselves during this busy time of year. Remember, it's okay to feel overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious.

What are your thoughts on the December dilemma? How do you balance the joy and stress of the holiday season? Let me know in the comments!
