Your Year in Review: A Practical Guide to Reflection

Reflect and renew
2

Hello lovely people,

As the year ends and your social media gets flooded with Spotify wraps, year end reflections and posts that ask you to spot 3 words which will define your 2025, I wanted to give you a handy exercise that will help you review and reflect about 2024 in a way that is healthy for your headspace.

Before we dive in, I want to acknowledge that not everyone feels the need to reflect. Sometimes, it's okay to simply let go and move forward. I've certainly had years where I was too overwhelmed to pause and ponder. But for those of us who find value in looking back, here's a simple exercise to guide you:

Let’s do this one together!

1. Gather Your Materials:

  • Journal or Notebook: This will be your primary tool for capturing thoughts and reflections.

  • Calendar or Planner: To review important dates, events, and milestones.

  • Digital Files: Photos, documents, or notes from the year.

2. Reflect on the Year:

  • Highlight Major Events: Identify significant moments, both positive and negative.

  • Identify Key Learnings: What did you learn about yourself, others, or the world?

  • Assess Your Goals: Did you achieve your goals? If not, why not?

  • Celebrate Your Wins: Acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small.

3. Identify Themes:

  • Recurring Patterns: Look for common themes in your experiences.

  • Emotional Patterns: Were there recurring emotions like joy, sadness, or frustration?

4. Gratitude Practice:

  • List What You're Grateful For: This can shift your perspective and boost your overall well-being.

5. Future Planning: (it doesn’t have to only be work related)

  • Set Intentions: What do you want to achieve in the coming year?

  • Create a Vision Board: Visualize your goals and dreams.

  • Break Down Goals: Divide large goals into smaller, actionable steps.

I'll be sharing my own reflections next Monday, a curated collection of lessons learned. And then, I'm diving into hibernation mode until the first Monday of 2025!

Remember, the goal isn't perfection, but progress. Until then, let's take a moment to appreciate the journey, no matter how bumpy it may have been.

Here's to a compassionate end of 2024.
